Unfolding a Story
My name is Caperton Morton. I talk to people, wherever I go. And, sometimes, folks tell me stories that end up revealing their passions that are so contagious that I have to share them. All these stories remind me of a treasured quilt that my Mom would unfold for me - The Crazy Quilt - hand sewn by my great-grandmother. There’s no pattern in a crazy quilt. It’s a jumble of different shapes cut from outgrown or worn-out clothes, and fabric scraps. As Mom unfolded it, she would point to certain pieces and tell me their stories. The red wool triangles and rectangles were cut from her favorite winter coat she’d worn when she was a little girl. The brown shapes, as soft as a horse’s nose, were from my grandma’s velvet jacket. If you think about it, this crazy quilt is a lot like our lives - a mismatched assortment of experiences - some more special than others, but all of them make us who we are. My podcast, Unfolding a Story mirrors this tradition – each episode stitches together engaging stories united by a common thread – the passions that define us.

The Art of Loving Grand Bahama
The Art of Loving Grand Bahama chronicles the recovery of Grand Bahama following the devistation of Hurricane Dorian on September 1-2, 2019. Island artists share their intepretations of Dorian's devistation along with the dangers of our warming climate. The podcast introduces an island resident and local and international aid groups that help organize the repair of homes and the building of new homes for Grand Bahamians. Also, environmental restoration works by Waterkeepers Bahamas, Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, and CoralVita are presented – revealing the deep passions their employees hold for the world's future. As Grand Bahamians continue to heal, creatives on island celebrate the resilience of the human spirit while sharing the island culture with the yougner generations as well as visitors to the island.
Part 1:
Healing by Art
After the pandemic, distancing protocols eased on Grand Bahama, allowing artists Laurie Tuchel, Jo Morasco, and Chantal Bethal to gather. They planned The One Goat and Three Bird Art Exhibit of their art spawned by the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, and created during the pandemic. Concerned by the warming climate, the artists invite Gator Halpern, President/Coral Vita Co-founder, and Justin Lewis, Bahamas Initiative Manager at Bonefish & Tarpon Trust to speak at the exhibition's opening night reception. The two gentlemen discussed the stress that warming water is having on corals around the world as well as the bonefish, tarpon, and permit fish, and mangrove forests, too. In Part 1, Caperton shares a harrowing story of survival.
